[…] Natural princes are rare. In living memory, the outstanding exemplar was Thomas Edur of English National Ballet, who ticked every box in defining this genre of “fach”. Additionally, Edur had great speed yet always looked unhurried. He would open the the throttle in Derek Deane’s Swan Lake as the Royla Albert Hall to perform an outstanding double manège of coupés jetés round the huge arena, a metaphorical Rolls Royce purring through the gears to hit top speed. When he performed grandes pirouettes he could speed them up or slow them down at will, with no apparent strain appearing in his face or body.
